Vehicle Donation FAQ's

?

What kinds of vehicles can be donated?

We accept almost all vehicles (running or not), including cars, trucks, trailers, boats, RVs, motorcycles, campers, off-road vehicles, planes, heavy equipment, farm machinery, and most other motorized vehicles. If you want to donate your vehicle, please go to our donation form or call us at 855-500-7433.

?

How is my vehicle picked up?

Once you complete the form, we will reach out to you to arrange the pick-up of your vehicle donation. Vehicle donation pick-up is always free to you and most vehicles can be picked up within 24-72 business hours.

?

When my vehicle is sold, how much of the money goes to Brigadoon?

Our partners at Advanced Remarketing Services return a higher percentage than any other vehicle processing entity. On a monthly basis, between 84% and 87% of the gross revenue generated from vehicle sales comes to Brigadoon.

?

What happens after my vehicle is picked up?

Your vehicle will be sold on behalf of Brigadoon through a national network of auctions, to a private buyer, or to a salvage yard.

You'll receive an initial car donation receipt upon pick-up and then our team will work to turn your car into cash to support our cause. Once your vehicle is sold, we will provide you proper tax forms in time to file. Our friendly Donor Support Representatives are here 7 days a week to assist throughout the process.

Depending on the registered state of the vehicle, the next step for you after your vehicle is picked up is to notify the state about your recent vehicle donation and that you are no longer no longer in possession of the vehicle. Please only notify your state after the vehicle is picked up. Click here to learn the steps required for notifying your state that you’ve donated your vehicle.

?

Are there tax benefits to donating my vehicle?

Brigadoon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions, including vehicle donations, may be claimed as deductions on your federal tax return, if you itemize.

Once your vehicle is sold, the selling price determines the amount of your donation. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you may deduct the full selling price. If your vehicle sells for $500 or less, you can deduct the “fair market value” of your vehicle, up to $500.

?

What happens to donated cars?

About half of our cars are sold to licensed dealers at wholesale auctions and are reused for transportation. The other half are typically transported to auto salvage yards where all reusable car parts, batteries, tires and fluids are removed. Vehicles that can be recycled are crushed, shredded and recycled into steel.

Brigadoon receives funds for each donated vehicle, although a car sold at auction generally generates more revenue than one that is recycled. Every donation makes a difference and the clients that partner with us are extremely grateful for your help.

?

What is the environmental impact of donating my car?

Many of the vehicles donated to Brigadoon are sold directly to licensed auto recyclers. These recyclers are crucial environmental stewards and help to ensure end-of-life vehicles are processed safely and in environmentally friendly ways.

Recycling cars keeps a huge amount of steel out of landfills. According to the National Material Company, more than 80 million tons of steel are recycled each year in North America. For every ton of steel recycled, 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,400 pounds of coal and 120 pounds of limestone are conserved.

Cars recycled properly can play a big role in reducing carbon emissions in the automotive manufacturing industry because recycling reduces the need to refine new materials. Recycling steel also saves the equivalent energy to power about 18 million households for a year.

Donating your vehicle to Brigadoon is a win for the community and the environment.
